[Release] RJ Van Xetten - The Dream [Interplay Records]

 

RJ Van Xetten drops a massive Tech Trance banger with a hook that many of us will find familiar from the civil rights icon Martin Luther King Jr ....

"I still have a dream".

The breakdown is taken directly from MLK's famous speech: 

I still have a dream - it is a dream deeply rooted in the American dream. I have a dream – that one day, this nation will rise up and live out its true meaning of its creed, 'We hold these truths to be self evident: that all men are created equal'

We asked RJ his inspiration for this track:

To be honest with you, it kind of just came spirit of the moment but what really pieces together was the initial the initial use of the "I still have a dream."

That was actually a chopped vocal sample that I found in an old old old packet from the early 2000s. Long story short, I end up finding the sample again and I decided to take it a step further and to find exactly where Martin Luther said that in his speech, because "I still have a dream" is only said in ONE portion of his speech.

It literally took me a while to find it, and once I did, I incorporated that exact portion into the song itself.

The synths and the bassline on the build up come along with a pounding signature RV Van Xetten breaks beat into the chorus with some energetic arps.

We asked RJ what part of the track was his favorite, and how it stands out from his other productions:

When the acapella of the "I still have a dream" speech is playing over strings, the pads and the atmospheric elements in the back, as you hear a swelling, almost a brassy sounding "WOOOOM" during his speech it gives you this sense of how powerful that speech truly was. When I first finished the song and I heard it all the way through, it just gave me epic chills.
So in all honesty, I have to say the breakdown is my favorite part of the production itself, along with my gritty, acid, gritty basslines and how much I love to just bring dark bass drops to everything.
