[Event] A Church of Trance Episode 250 Celebration - A Reflection

Though my journey in Trance started almost 30 years ago, the passion to be behind the decks started by being a show goer after moving to Minneapolis in 2006 and having a true, as we call it, "music scene". Along with a budding music community bore so many amazing people that have become "framily" and within that subset, a community of talented individuals whom birthed the desire to own DJ equipment and, on top of that, become a master of the craft.

Along the way there were cherished souls encountered who made a life long impact, including a very precious one by the name of Daisy who would always be seen at shows, though living several hours away in Wisconsin. Her staple was adorning a flag simply titled "Church of Trance", and in the years reflecting back as a "show goers" that message celebrates community, communion, and love through music, and in almost a religious life fervor we as humans can enjoy true fellowships with each other, which is how life should be spent and enjoyed.

Though that journey as a DJ started in 2015, it wasn't until the world shut down and the only way to connect with the #trancefamily was virtually that this new idea of spending many more hours behind the decks sharing the love of music over the internet was also, abet virtually, a place of celebrating the fact that community, communion, and love can also shared through music - anytime and anywhere. This is why the banner "Church of Trance" is flown as our symbol to the world and our motto of connecting to the world thru music.

Starting this journey in 2020 was, despite having 30 years of background in technology supporting computers and IT environments around the world, quite its own beast. In short - livestreaming is not for the faint of heart! Besides being a DJ, the social element of interacting to a camera and in a chat room is exacerbated by having to think on your feet for any challenges coming your way. The early days saw multiple changes to computer systems, new cameras and lighting arrangements, troubleshooting internet connectivity - not to mention not having a dedicated space to stream and having to convert the living space to a streaming space for each and every stream (PS, even to this day) or create make shift streaming setups wherever the need called!

Never would I have thought that 4 years later, this message would be spread and championed over 250 times encompassing a total of 881 hours (easily 8-10 times spent in a club over the last 10 years behind the decks), and with a celebration event that encompassed over 34 hours of music, spanning 2 separate days of the week (and mind you, filling 24 hours during the week is a massive feat), enjoyed by hundreds (if not thousands) around the world alongside over 20 other DJs both in Minneapolis and around the world - all that I call friends. This would not have been possible without everyone behind the decks and in front of the decks / behind their screens. 👏

In closing, my heart is filled with love and joy to share my passion with the world, but having that love and joy returned daily on social media and in person countless times over means the world 💓 Thanks to all, and while we have the memories behind us, the best is yet ahead!
