[Release] Taylor Torrence - Ignition [Revealed Radar]

After one of our favorites in the April 2024 edition of Church of Trance "Feed Me Pills" was a dance floor banger in several of my sets, seeing Taylor Torrence and Miyuki playing B2B at the Dreamstate preparty plus play this banger of a tune was icing on the cake.

After we had a chance to connect on the tune and the response we were seeing, he sent over his hottest new track "Ignition".  Absolutely loving the darker sound from Taylor, not only are we included it in the May 2024 edition but asked him to be a part of one of the Release Reviews, where he shared more about the meaning and the direction of his music in 2024.

What is the definition of "Ignition" and what does it mean to you?

Ignition is a great collection of all the aspects of my current sound. It’s techy, explosive, loud, energetic and built for the festival stage. Honestly when I listen to the track I’m quite proud because I don’t hear anything that I’d change about it. I like it just the way it turned out—which honestly happens less than most artists would like it to. I’m very proud of the result.

Can you share what moment(s) stick out from the creative process that brought "Ignition" to life?

I actually struggled a little with the vocal concept in the track. These days I’m always challenging myself to inject a memorable concept into my songs and include some sort of vocal element to help with storytelling. The first version of “Ignition” was actually called “Lost in the Rave” and I was playing with the idea that the main sound would represent some sort of alarm. But I couldn’t get it to work.  Eventually I discovered the vocal you now hear in the break, that says “Wavetables loaded, basslines locked, drums encoded” etc. And once I heard that, I knew that was the new concept. I developed some sound effects to play into that thematic story in the break that “respond” to those vocals, and once I did that, the track came to life.

You've made a shift from some of the core melodic sounds of Trance to the heavier sounds of Techno - what has been your influence for that change?

Speaking 100% honestly, this change really came hand-in-hand with my own personal development. Over the last two years or so, I’ve done a lot of personal work to strengthen my boundaries, my assertiveness, and the overall way I walk through life. This may sound unrelated, but as I made these developments within myself I noticed that the music I felt most drawn to changed as well. I’m not really sure what the actual mechanism of action is for that, but I can feel that they’re related.

You're returning to Las Vegas for the Dreamstate preparty and playing the big stage at Quantum Valley - can you share what you've been working on for the big EDC Week?

Super stoked for this week! For Dreamstate’s preparty at AREA15, Miyuki and I have a really fun set prepared with all of our favorite music. I think we’re going into that set with FUN in mind to get everyone in the mood for an awesome weekend. We haven’t planned every moment of the set, but rather just overall what we want to play in a general sense. I think it’s more fun that way. For EDC, I’m planning to REALLY push the edge of my sound, especially since I’m closing the first night at 4am. Expect FAST tempos and a ton of energy, as well as a lot of new surprises ;)

Certainly loving the build and the vocal & droning fx along with the punch bassline we can't wait to see the damage Ignition will do on the dance floor and in the May 2024 edition of Church of Trance. Be sure to grab your copy today and give it a stream!
