It's always exciting when you see younger artists releasing tracks across a multitude of labels on a regular basis telling a unique story with a sublime melody and masterful structure. One of the names that has been on our radar that delivers just that is Kim Ki-Won, otherwise known as Casepeat - one of the rising Trance stars from South Korea. When his latest promo for "Silence" on Allen Watts High Voltage Recordings landed in our inbox and we listened through the track, we knew the #trancefamily needed to get to know this very talented DJ / producer and learn the magic behind the making of this track that ran on repeat in our studio.
Hi Kim thank you for the opportunity to connect!
Hi thanks for having me!
Diving right in we'd love to know what the definition of "Silence" is and what does it mean to you?
As you can hear in the lyrics of this tune, "I can hear your voice, through the silence".
When we connect and know each other very well, we can communicate our minds even through the silence. That's the thing, and I also think that's very important for me when loving people. :)
Can you share what moment(s) sticks out from the creative process that brought "Silence" to life?
Surprisingly, as with most of my uplifting trance song work, I was the first to make the lead melody throughout the song, and it was amazing and fun to find the perfect vocal sound. And also it's my first tech-lifting style trance.
How does "Silence" separate itself from your other productions "Protocol", Time Break" and "Genesis"?
It's amazing that you know my first Beatport uplifting trance track "Protocol," and my first progressive trance track "Time Break," which I sang myself (my own vocal). I remember trying to make something more original than a standardized feel for other my releases. On the other hand, for "Genesis," the conclusion is the complete opposite. As we always talk to my collaborator on this track, Plutian, it didn't take not that long days, but it was very pure and easy-going. It was also the first song to be released by Nocturnal Knights Music, one of my dream trance labels, and it was also the first song to be supported by FSOE radio by trance superstar Aly & Fila, and Find Your Harmony radio by Andrew Rayel, which ranked in the top 35 of the Beatport trance main top 100 chart.
For our listeners who are new to Casepeat, can you tell us the first track that made you fall in love with Trance?
The first thing I fell in love with was the BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix by Armin van Buuren around 2013 and the artist's album Intense. It's hard to pick just one song, and I can't remember exactly, but one song that definitely impressed me was the last bonus track, 'Gaia - Humming The Lights.'
What's on the radar for Casepeat in the rest of 2024?
In fact, after "Silence", the second release from one of my favorite Trance artists Allen Watts' label 'High Voltage Recordings', Casepeat & Dalmoori - "In My Mind" was also released a few days ago. Also working on and releasing new songs this year, August will feature new songs from DIM3NSION's label 'Bemind Records' and 'Monster Force' (the label of Monster Tunes), and new songs will be released from John O'Callaghan's 'Subculture', Sean Tyas' 'Regenerate', and Darren Porter's 'Reason II Rise', Andy Moor & Somna's 'AVA Recordings'... and so many more through September, October, November, December, and January next year. My DJ gig is scheduled for August 9th at a club in Gangnam, Seoul, In addition, I'm a full-time musician, including film music director and composer, and I'll be working on a new feature film around next year.
The main vocal "I can hear your voice thru the silence" pierces the soul with its ethereal tone, and the track has such a powerful build that drops into one of the most amazing melodies we've heard this year. Be sure to give this track support and tune in for the play in the July Church of Trance episode on Afterhours dot FM the last Friday of the month at 4P EST, and then the following Monday on demand via the Trance Jesus socials.
