Trance Jesus chats with Cold Blue for a relaxed car ride from the airport to Downtown Minneapolis in a wide-ranging interview covering his return to the United States, the love of intimate club shows, the story behind his latest album, the surprising staying power of vinyl, and how life in the German countryside has reshaped his creative routine. Enjoy a real look at the person behind the music, and a raw look at trance culture, artist life, and the connection with one of Trance’s most beloved artists.
Cold Blue
Hey Chris, how are we doing? Some traffic there.
Yeah, nice to see you. Nice to see you. We met before.
Trance Jesus
Yes, Dream States. Dream States of the past.
Cold Blue
Yeah, you look very familiar to me.
Trance Jesus
I'm, uh, I'm told I'm hard to miss. Yeah, especially
when I'm skating out.
Cold Blue
Especially what?
Trance Jesus
When I'm standing up.
Cold Blue
Oh yeah.
Trance Jesus
About 196[cm].
Cold Blue
Okay.
Trance Jesus
So people are usually looking for me in the crowds.
Cold Blue
Okay, okay, right.
Trance Jesus
When was the last time before COVID
It was probably
2019 because the only one that I ever missed was 2020. Okay. So I went to just
about every one of them except the drive-in that year, which I mean Unless you
were in California, I don't think anyone went to that one. Yeah. So, and, and
obviously you probably heard from a billion people you missed the last one
because of all the, the visa cramp.
Cold Blue
Yeah, yeah, yeah. I know, I know. This year will
happen. Yes.
Trance Jesus
You've already been over here once for Beyond
Wonderland, right?
Cold Blue
Yeah. Yeah. Oh yeah. Yeah.
Trance Jesus
So it's always a fun flight, right?
Cold Blue
It is, it was tiring, like just for one show.
Trance Jesus
Yes.
Cold Blue
So yeah.
Trance Jesus
At least here you'll be able to have a couple shows
here. Yeah, this is not as pleasing. Oh yeah.
Cold Blue
We just got Mexico City confirmed, I heard earlier,
so I have—
Trance Jesus
Fantastic.
Cold Blue
I have 4 weekends of mostly 2 shows. Only EC is just
one show. Yeah. Got several shows.
Trance Jesus
And EDC weekend is enough for like a month of shows.
Cold Blue
Yeah. That's right.
Trance Jesus
It's—
Cold Blue
Are you going?
Trance Jesus
I am not going this year. The last time I was at EDC
was 2022. I'm definitely, let's see, I think that was my, I think I've been
like 4 times. My buddy Nia, which you'll definitely see tonight, this will be
his 11th EDC. And so when you, uh, when you buy the EDC tickets, they send you
the little book in the mail that has like a, a lanyard and your wristband and
like some stickers and whatnot. And so he's got a stack of them just sitting
right beside his computer, like this tall.
Cold Blue
Wow.
Trance Jesus
All the EDCs that he's been to.
Cold Blue
Okay.
Trance Jesus
Are you, are you feeling tired? Are you feeling—
yeah, all right, pretty tired.
Cold Blue
And, um, I just saw my set times for tonight, which
is great. I love the length of the set.
Trance Jesus
Do you want to go longer? I should talk to Andrew. We
can switch. We can go back to back for 30 minutes. It'd give me 3 hours.
Cold Blue
I think 2 and a half is actually a pretty good time.
Trance Jesus
Yeah.
Cold Blue
And then we can see spontaneity in the end. Sure. Um,
I'm thinking to go straight to bed now. That's perfect.
Trance Jesus
And then maybe late dinner. Hausenbiet, or what are
you thinking?
Cold Blue
Maybe not, because it's just sleeping time now in
Germany.
Trance Jesus
Sure.
Cold Blue
So I might stay in the rhythm for one night now.
Trance Jesus
I don't blame you.
Cold Blue
Before going to LA. That's okay to you?
Trance Jesus
That's fine with me.
Cold Blue
And yeah, then I'm going to be fit for the show.
Trance Jesus
Awesome. Yeah, definitely. Being rested and prepared
is always a great thing.
Cold Blue
Yeah. So are you the main promoter or just helping
out?
Trance Jesus
I help out. I've been working with some shows kind of
in a capacity to support artists for like a decade. So I've done shows, I've
thrown shows. Like I've got Darren Porter will be staying at my house next
week.
Cold Blue
Nice.
Trance Jesus
To hang out for a little bit before and after EDC and
have a have a show lined up for him once he's here in town. So good to get to
spend a little bit of time with him. But yeah, I'm— I love connecting with
trance artists when they come into my own backyard versus having to go travel
and see them. But usually it's either your EDCs or it's your Luminosity to be
able to connect with a lot of them. So They are happy to get you to bed.
Literally, the hotel is right next door to the venue, so— Ah, perfect.
Cold Blue
That's always the best.
Trance Jesus
You can time it as close as you'd like. It's real
good.
Cold Blue
And the club closes at 2? English?
Trance Jesus
Yeah, that is, that is the hard club close. You might
be able to squeak a couple minutes past, but security will come and like tell
you to do this number here.
Cold Blue
So, okay. Yeah. But there's also not much time to
talk to people afterwards.
Trance Jesus
So usually they will let you hang out afterwards. I
mean, they'll, they'll be a little aggressive. I mean, that's why they get paid
for it, for security. Um, but if there are people that are hanging out there
afterwards, they're not going to just force them to leave.
Cold Blue
Yeah.
Trance Jesus
Uh, on the other side too, if you wanted to come over
a little bit early, I think, uh, the call time, it's at 11, and I know your
set's 11:30, so if you wanted to come up a little early and say hi to any of
the Minneapolis trans fam, you're certainly welcome to do that as well.
Cold Blue
Okay. Yeah, usually it's more relaxed for me
afterwards because before my set I'm a bit mentally preparing.
Trance Jesus
Yeah.
Cold Blue
In the zone.
Trance Jesus
Yep.
Cold Blue
And then afterwards, totally relaxed. Todd or
OpenHead.
Trance Jesus
Yes. Joel Higgerson. What was the first time you came
to US? I know, I know, obviously the first DreamStates. Was that the first time
you got your visa?
Cold Blue
Yeah, it was 2017.
Trance Jesus
Then of course it didn't make sense to have it, you
know, when it was time to renew. I know.
Cold Blue
Yeah, exactly. It was perfect timing with COVID Yeah,
my visa ended and I took a, like, a very good break.
Trance Jesus
Yeah. I, I, I have talked to a few people that, uh,
had their visas renewed in 2019. It's like, oh, yep. That's so bad. It's like
really couldn't, couldn't make the most of it then. So.
Cold Blue
And Darren is playing a show after— the week after?
Trance Jesus
Oh, yep. Well, never— he will be— he'll be coming
back into town. I think he's going through Chicago first, but then he's going
to come here to Minneapolis. I guess coming through Minneapolis was a— is a
pretty affordable route right now for artists versus trying to go all the way
out to LA or even to go through somewhere like Newark or Atlanta.
Cold Blue
Yeah, the flight was not busy at all.
Trance Jesus
Yeah, I think all the friends that they just, uh,
they just started doing routes directly from Frankfurt to Minneapolis like last
fall.
Cold Blue
Oh, really?
Trance Jesus
So it's like now I've got to, I have no reason to be
able to go visit Germany because I can literally hop on one flight and it's
direct. Yeah.
Cold Blue
Okay. And when did you start playing, not playing,
but hosting threads? Show?
Trance Jesus
Oh my gosh, um, I— first time I heard trance music
was actually going to Amsterdam with my dad in '96 on the, uh, the KLM
in-flight music back when that—
Cold Blue
'96?
Trance Jesus
It's like if you had a stethoscope, you know, when
you had the little stethoscopes for your earbuds. They didn't have actual
headphones back then, it was just a little tube with the music that come out
like the doctor's office.
Cold Blue
Interesting.
Trance Jesus
So that's the first time I heard it. Ever since then,
I was hooked. Like, been going to trance events ever since, you know, my wife
and I, we go to shows. She DJs as well. So it was, I've been DJing for, I'd
say, 11 years now. And for about 7 of those 11 years, I did all I could do to
convince her to DJ. And she's like, the world doesn't need any more DJs. But a
couple of our female friends who also DJ, she's like, but the world needs more
female DJs. She was like, oh, that's like, is that all it took? I just had to
have one of our people friends convince you. Um, but yeah, I did that DJing and
doing promotions for shows for over a decade.
Cold Blue
That's cool.
Trance Jesus
I've worked with Sam. I've, um, I've thrown my own
shows. I did artist management for a while. Um, I worked with Marius, Marius,
uh, for— he did some work with Insomniac. He's out of Boulder.
Cold Blue
Oh, from Boulder.
Trance Jesus
Yeah, yeah, yeah. So I worked with Marius for a while
doing some artist management and last year I was like, it's time to focus on me
and working on music and working with my wife. Um, just DJing and producing. So
that's kind of what I've been doing the last year. So it's been great. It's
been really, uh, invigorating to not have to do as much of the hustle and
bustle. And, you know, granted, I'll still harass our main promoter with emails
and text messages like, let's book this trace DJ, let's put this trace DJ. So
I'm, uh, I'm glad it worked out perfectly timing-wise with Rob to have you
here.
Cold Blue
Yeah, I'm so happy too. Especially, like I said on
the video, don't know if you saw it, but the small shows are the one that
matter the most, I think. Big festivals. I don't know. I don't really feel them
anymore.
Trance Jesus
Yeah. And there's the sets are so short. You don't
really get to tell the story that you want to tell through music.
Cold Blue
Yeah. And then there are so many random people also
that— Sweetheart, ciao. The people who are there for the music maybe feel a bit
lost throughout.
Trance Jesus
Yes. That's very true. Especially at a big event like
EDC, 250,000 people, you've got 15 stages. They're all crammed in one giant
motor speedway. And you definitely have the trance fans that come out, but
there's, like you said, there's a lot of people there for a lot of different
styles of music. And then there's an opportunity to introduce them to trance.
Cold Blue
Yeah.
Trance Jesus
Walking by and hearing a song and hearing the melody
that they may have never heard before. And then the next thing you know, that's
something that they really love and enjoy. So.
Cold Blue
And then they hopefully come to Minneapolis.
Trance Jesus
Absolutely. Actually, I've got a couple of friends
that are coming from Wisconsin, which is, it's literally right next door. So
I've got a couple friends that are driving 3, 4 hours here. I've got another
one from Chicago, Hirsch, Peter Hirsch. You may see his face and recognize him,
but hopefully he's actually going to be traveling from Chicago. Well, that's
about a 6, 7-hour drive. Wow. Or a 1-hour flight if it's, time-wise, that's
what I prefer. I'm too old to stay in the car for 6 hours.
Cold Blue
Oh, okay.
Trance Jesus
When it's like a 1-hour flight.
Cold Blue
Yeah. But still the 1-hour flight takes maybe 4 hours
from door to door.
Trance Jesus
Yes.
Cold Blue
Yeah. But it's, it shows that there's demand for club
shows. Yes. People are willing to drive so far. It's great.
Trance Jesus
And I think part of it too is the exact reason that
you said they want a more intimate experience. They want to be able to see
their favorite artists up close for more than 60 minutes.
Cold Blue
Exactly, yeah.
Trance Jesus
Not to mention, you have a new album out, right?
Cold Blue
Yeah.
Trance Jesus
That just dropped a couple months ago?
Cold Blue
Yeah, it was, I think, November.
Trance Jesus
Yeah.
Cold Blue
It came out.
Trance Jesus
So on your own imprint?
Cold Blue
It wasn't Black Hole, but the singers I released on
my own imprint on Cold Blue Records. Um, but it made sense to release the album
on Black Hole. They have the power to provide our things.
Trance Jesus
Absolutely.
Cold Blue
The distribution. And I just heard yesterday that the
vinyl is sold out, which I'm very happy about.
Trance Jesus
Did you pre-order?
Cold Blue
I don't have any more.
Trance Jesus
That's what—
Cold Blue
I gave away all of it.
Trance Jesus
I think I might have ordered it. I need to go back
and look at my orders then. I'm, uh, I do have a couple of 1200s at home and I
do have quite a vinyl collection. I can actually spin on vinyl, but I don't
spend as much time behind the decks playing vinyl as I do on the internet
buying it.
Cold Blue
Okay. Well, it's good support for us.
Trance Jesus
Yeah. I mean, it's, I would imagine that you probably
see more revenue selling vinyl than you do MP3s, right? As from an album
perspective.
Cold Blue
Uh, yeah, definitely. Maybe not as much as the
streaming, but I mean, the most important thing is to make people happy.
Trance Jesus
Yeah.
Cold Blue
They love to have something physical. That's how you
from Loken.
Trance Jesus
I say that about vinyl. I say that's why vinyl has
made such a resurgence is because it's something you're tangible that they can
hold on to. And then, you know, if you get in with the, you know, some of the
vinyl sales I've seen, you get like the first 100, you get like a special press
that has like a special colorings, and then you can do the signed ones. And
there's a lot of different avenues to be able to make it even more special for
the fans to be able to buy it. And then you can do a remix one too, right? You
do, you have your album and you have a remix album and then you put that
online.
Cold Blue
And I'm like, yeah, yeah, got it. Got it. Yeah. Give
me all your money.
Trance Jesus
Well, a part of it too is maybe not even the money.
It's just the staying connected to the fans, right? It's, you know, giving them
the content to say, hey, this is cool. Like, check out a new remix or check out
a tour or check out stops or—
Cold Blue
Yeah. There was a different voice inside of me when I
made the album that I was thinking, maybe it's all about the music and why do
we have to produce products to make people listen to music? Actually, it's so
cool that we have the digital format. Yes, doesn't take any space, doesn't take
any money, doesn't take any resources. And people still have the great
experience of listening to the music. So that's a different perspective that I
was like dealing with and wondering, should I do CD and vinyl or maybe just,
just a vinyl, just put it online and yeah.
Trance Jesus
Yeah. And I think with the, there's a good side and a
bad side to having media so accessible. I think the good side is. It's really
accessible. The bad side of it is everyone's making it accessible, right?
There's so many people that are just putting out content and it's, you know, my
wife loves to listen to Spotify all day long and find new artists and find new
tracks. And then there's the Release Radar that comes out every Friday to be
able to hear new tracks from artists that you know. But sometimes even those
algorithms, they dial you into just what you are familiar with. And they don't
bring you outside the box to have you look at other artists unless you start to
look at it like specifically targeted playlists around an artist or a genre to
be able to find some of those new ones. I think that's where you personally, I
found some new artists is saying, let me hear one track from Coldblue. And then
it says, okay, well then you like this style of music, maybe you'll like these
people too.
Cold Blue
Right, yeah. But maybe that's what you have a wife
for. To show you new music.
Trance Jesus
Shh, don't remind me. Because she actually does. So
we DJ together. We'll do like, we'll do house, we'll do tech house, we'll do
techno, we'll do trance. Even melodic techno, which I mean, sometimes I'll say,
you know it's trance, right? Um, no, she's the one that usually is the one
introducing me to new artists and new sounds. Which is good.
Cold Blue
Yeah, that's a different way of algorithm to connect
with people and share your favorite little tricks. Like back in the days.
Trance Jesus
That's so true.
Cold Blue
So we are driving into town.
Trance Jesus
We are driving into town. I missed the one turn to go
to downtown, but there's so much construction that way right now. So we're
going to do the little we're, we've, uh, the airport is right in between
Minneapolis and St. Paul. So we are actually in St. Paul and we're gonna make a
turn up here and get on the highway and it's gonna take us right into, right
into Minneapolis. So they're, they're both connected by one highway.
Cold Blue
Yeah.
Trance Jesus
But they're separated by the river. So, okay. The
Mississippi River is the one thing that separates Minneapolis from St. Paul.
Uh-huh. You can get back and forth, which we had to in like 15 minutes.
Cold Blue
So interesting. Okay. I heard of the Twin Cities, but
I didn't know what they were.
Trance Jesus
And now you can say, hey, I was in both of them. I
am. Yeah, I went to Minneapolis to play, but I drove through St. Paul. This is
Stelling Avenue. We'll see the— we do actually have a professional soccer team,
professional football team, and their stadium is right around this corner.
You'll be able to see it.
Cold Blue
Okay. And is there rivalry between the cities?
Trance Jesus
When it comes to sports, not really. Um, so our
hockey team plays at the arena here. Um, our soccer team plays over here, but
all of our other professional sports, football, baseball, basketball, are over
in, in Minneapolis. And we'll, we'll, I'll show you those, those giant, uh,
venues where they play as we drive over there. Um, the biggest one is our
football, our American football team, the Vikings.
Cold Blue
Okay.
Trance Jesus
Um, so that is our biggest venue in the Twin Cities,
60,000 people. Wow. Um, I think the soccer field's like 15 maybe. And then the,
uh, the arena where they have the baseball and the basketball, it's about 20.
Cold Blue
Okay.
Trance Jesus
So you can tell what the popular sport is here.
Cold Blue
The Ref Nightclub? Say it again? The Ref Nightclub?
Trance Jesus
Oh, the RV? How is it? The Ref is about 200.
Cold Blue
200?
Trance Jesus
Yes.
Cold Blue
That's not too bad.
Trance Jesus
It is very intimate. They just did a lot of
remodeling last year. They did their reopening in November. And I love it. I
played there. That is my home club. I've been there dozens and dozens of times
in the last decade. But they've spruced it up and they've got some new lights
and sound and the booth is all nice and spacious. So I'm really happy that they
started doing events back here at Radegarden.
Cold Blue
Great.
Trance Jesus
It's been a big favorite of mine.
Cold Blue
I have played quite a few small venues in the last
months and maybe 2 years ago I had a feeling that the small venues are dying
out. But now it seems like they are coming back and they really proper setups.
Trance Jesus
I think if you are a venue owner and you can keep a
small club running by whatever means necessary. So I think for example, Rev is
part of one building. The main level is a restaurant. And they also have the
rooftop as a restaurant too. What they'll do over the weekends, they'll just
bring all the tables out of the rooftop and turn it into a venue as well. So
they'll do shows up on the rooftop as well. But the factor that is keeping that
alive is the fact that throughout the week it's a restaurant too. Yeah. So
they're able to go to that same space and use it as a club after hours too.
Cold Blue
Yeah. Multipurpose.
Trance Jesus
Multipurpose. Yeah. I like being able to just have a
club as a club. Yeah. I think you have to go to like Vegas or Miami or LA to be
able to do that nowadays. Yep. So there he is. There's our, there's a soccer
stadium.
Cold Blue
Oh yeah. That's big. And that's only 15,000?
Trance Jesus
Yeah, I think it's about 15 to 20.
Cold Blue
Looks huge.
Trance Jesus
The way that they built that, you know, the wrap
around it, I don't know what you would call it because it's, it, there's not a
roof. It's just, um, I think they do that purely for looks and for, you know,
blocking wind, whatnot.
Cold Blue
Mm-hmm.
Trance Jesus
Yeah, that was— it's definitely big. And it looks
like they're building something beside it too now. That's not too uncommon
where they'll just level a whole area here in the cities. And they'll do these
multi-purpose spaces where you got, uh, uh, commercial, like a restaurant or a
business on the main level, and they'll have these, uh, condominiums, uh, on
top. So where we just drove by is very common. So wouldn't be surprised if
they're doing that there, where they're putting some, uh, housing or whatnot
right next to the stadium so they can, uh, sell for more money.
Cold Blue
Yeah, yeah.
Trance Jesus
Uh, same in Germany, these kind of buildings, they So
if you look down there, you can see downtown St. Paul. And then right over
there, we're going to go to Minneapolis.
Cold Blue
What do you do in your normal life?
Trance Jesus
My day job, the job that makes me money.
Cold Blue
Internet?
Trance Jesus
I do IT work.
Cold Blue
IT.
Trance Jesus
So I work in the Microsoft space. As of late, it's
been all AI all the time.
Cold Blue
Okay.
Trance Jesus
So the company I work for, we do, we have a software
as a service platform in the cloud that works with companies that are looking
to buy or sell their company to others.
Cold Blue
So, okay.
Trance Jesus
Mergers and acquisitions. So we have a whole platform
from end to end where if I'm a private equity firm where I do investments, buy
other companies.
Cold Blue
Interesting. Okay.
Trance Jesus
We sell our product to them, they see what companies
are looking to sell, and then they can go through the whole process of looking
at their finances and looking at their legals, doing it all on a secure
platform. Back 20 years ago, to do all that, you'd have to fly to the city.
You'd go to the city.
Cold Blue
You'd meet people.
Trance Jesus
You'd meet people, you'd have to sit in a room, you'd
have to, for weeks on end, you'd have to look through all these papers, look
through all the documentation. So they call those data rooms. But now with the
advent of technology and even AI, And having a virtual data room, you could do
all that in like a matter of seconds. So that's what our company does. We have
a technology that makes it easy for companies to do all their due diligence and
actually buy other companies. And I've, they were a client of mine. I did
consulting for 20+ years and then I was like, oh, they've, I really enjoyed
working with them. They're very technology forward. They're always on the
cutting edge. So I, been a full-time employee there and held the consulting
role for the last 18 months or so.
Cold Blue
Okay.
Trance Jesus
How about you? Do you do music full-time and a day
job or?
Cold Blue
Yeah, I did music full-time for 15 years maybe. And
now I live in a small community and I do a lot of hand labor. Oh, sure. While
still doing music on the side.
Trance Jesus
Like a handyman? Yeah, I love that.
Cold Blue
Building, building work, renovation.
Trance Jesus
I love that. Garden. Yes. I've got a number of
friends that are handy like that.
Cold Blue
Yeah, I enjoy it so much. I didn't know I was
talented in it, but I just—
Trance Jesus
Just something like disconnecting from everything and
focusing your efforts on something that isn't technology. It's for cherish.
Yeah, definitely. I, uh, I did finish my basement in my house. I, I did
everything but the drywall and the carpet.
Cold Blue
Yeah.
Trance Jesus
I ran all the electrical, but I had an electrician
come through and do the last little bit. So I ran all the wires, done the
plumbing and everything. Yeah, maybe same. It's, it's fun. I, I love it. And
said, uh, we'll end up looking to build a structure behind my house so that way
for my, my kids, which I was, I say my little kids, my littlest is going to be
15 this year.
Cold Blue
It's okay though.
Trance Jesus
So whenever they have their friends over, they kind
of go back in the little building and play like basketball and games and
whatnot, which is especially handy in the winter because, you know, here in
Minnesota we have between December and like April, so it can get down to, you
know, below freezing. Hokanakan have snow on the ground, so it's not really
conducive to activities indoors.
Cold Blue
Mississippi.
Trance Jesus
That's a Mississippi, really? Now we're in
Minneapolis. You can see the downtown skyscape.
Cold Blue
It's beautiful.
Trance Jesus
Yeah. Having a space where our kids and their friends
can kind of get together and not be in the house is like, it's really nice,
especially now that they're teenagers.
Cold Blue
Yeah. Sounds very social.
Trance Jesus
Yes. Any, any kids on your side?
Cold Blue
Not yet.
Trance Jesus
No.
Cold Blue
I would love to, but takes time.
Trance Jesus
And, uh, it does. Time, effort, and money. Yeah, I'm
gonna stress the money.
Cold Blue
Am I? Oh yeah, especially if you live in a city, I
would say.
Trance Jesus
My, my oldest is in college. He's finishing up his
fourth year. University and changed his major using computers, and now they
have an AI degree. So he's doing like a lot of programming and a lot of logic
skills, like thinking about how to solve problems, for sure. It's definitely an
invaluable skill to have, to be able to take that and apply it to technology is
really cool. So he's finishing up his last week, I think, and then he'll be
here for a couple weeks, and then him and his girlfriend are living in the
other.
Cold Blue
Hmm?
Trance Jesus
Him and his girlfriend are living in together.
Cold Blue
Okay.
Trance Jesus
So.
Cold Blue
How many children do you have?
Trance Jesus
Uh, I've got 3 boys.
Cold Blue
3 boys.
Trance Jesus
Yes.
Cold Blue
And the oldest is how old?
Trance Jesus
22. 22. And our middle son will be 20 in a couple
weeks.
Cold Blue
Mm-hmm.
Trance Jesus
And our little guy, he's 14. So yeah, there's a US
Bank Stadium. —It is a monstrosity. Yeah, this is the eastern side of downtown.
Okay. It's quite pretty. It is lovely this time of year. I tell people I live
in Minnesota for literally this time of year, between April and December,
because the weather is so nice. I mean, temperature-wise. Probably doesn't get
over, you know, 80 degrees, so 25, 30. So it'll warm up a little bit, but it
was just not too hot. Not just for a couple days.
Cold Blue
Okay. Lovely. And do you live in the city? I know you
said 15 minutes from the airport.
Trance Jesus
I live south of the airport. So I am from where I
picked you up, probably another 10 minutes. That's the south direction. So it's
not, not bad at all. I mean, we're, we're down here. It's almost a game
sometimes to see how many times I can come downtown in a week. It's my office.
My company is actually nice down here, but I take the bus. Oh, that way I don't
have to drive, you know, deal with the stress of other drivers or road rage or
what have you. And, and I, and the bus is like, $4 round trip. Okay. So it's, I
can zone out. It's about 20, 30 minutes on the bus. So it's really not, it's
probably about the same amount of time as it would take me to drive. Yeah. But
I don't have to deal with a car. I don't have to deal with parking. Yep. And I
can like be, I can zone out and be stress-free. It's for my mental health and
it's cheaper.
Cold Blue
Can you do a home office as well?
Trance Jesus
Do I have a home office? Can you do home office? Yes,
yes. I do that 3 days a week. Okay, so Monday, Thursday, Friday. So my wife
goes into the office Tuesday, Wednesday. She drops me off the bus, she picks me
up at the bus. Hmm, we have our little, um, office studio in the basement. So
yeah, we get to get out of the house every now and then, at least 2 days a
week.
Cold Blue
Yeah, I think it's important to get out of the house
every now and then. Yeah, but also it's good that you don't have to go out
every day for 10 hours.
Trance Jesus
Absolutely. And function all the time. Our other
Venedig Armory is right there. So that's, that one's about 7,000 people. Had a
Armin and Tiesto there. Oh, really? Yeah.
Cold Blue
How many people live here?
Trance Jesus
In the city, in Minneapolis proper, is about 400,000,
but when you count all the suburbs, it's like 7 counties, another 70 suburbs,
so over 3 million. Mm-hmm. Okay. And Saint Paul? Uh, Saint Paul is probably
about, probably the same size. I'd say probably about 300,000 to 400,000
people. Yep. There's all the, all the suburbs, like the main cities, they're,
they're not that big. And then all the other little outlying cities really do
make up a lot of the, the Twin Cities area. Mm-hmm. Uh, how far are you from,
uh, Frankfurt?
Cold Blue
About 45 minutes. Okay. Train. Do you train? Take
train or drive or? I live very far out in the countryside now and the train
connection is bad, so I drive to Frankfurt. But I lived in the city of Mainz,
which is closer to the airport. And from there, from then, from there, I took
the train a short time. That was very easy. Now I have to take the car.
Trance Jesus
If I fly. That's my dream to like live way out in the
middle of nowhere and—
Cold Blue
Yeah, it's better. It's cheaper also.
Trance Jesus
Yes, yeah. You probably only have to come into the
city like just for to travel for shows, right?
Cold Blue
Yeah. Yeah. It's the only time when I'm in cities.
Trance Jesus
I'd imagine you probably have a fair amount of shows
in Europe. And Germany?
Cold Blue
Germany, not so much. The scene is quite dead there.
Oh really? Oh wow. But a lot in the Netherlands and UK, Poland again this year.
It's growing at the moment. I'm really glad about it. That is good.
Trance Jesus
Yeah, this is Ryework. I work in this building. Oh,
okay. There's actually a little letter around the corner. It says DataSight,
and that is who this company worked for.
Cold Blue
Nice. Right next to the club.
Trance Jesus
Yeah, yeah. So the, not the next light, but the one
after that is Hennepin Avenue, and it's literally right there on Hennepin.
Mm-hmm.
Cold Blue
You play right before me, right?
Trance Jesus
I open up and then Andrew. So either myself or
Whitney will come over and grab you. Mm-hmm. I think 11 is what the call time
was. So yeah, sounds good. And then just walk you over.
Cold Blue
Yeah.
Trance Jesus
If you need anything in the interim, you let me know
because I've got people that live like blocks away. Okay, they can, uh, take
care of you. And if you, uh, you wake up and you're feeling hungry and you need
anything, yeah, you want— do you want to do a dinner? Let me know as well. Uh,
there's a couple places that I love and I'd be happy to take you, but I know
how important rest is, especially with your upcoming week ahead. Right. Yeah.
Yeah. Thank you very much. Absolutely.
Cold Blue
I think I would be fine.
Trance Jesus
Oh, let's see. I think it is this one here. There we
are.
Cold Blue
Alrighty. Thank you so much. Have a good rest. See
you later. See you soon.
Trance Jesus
Yeah. Have a good set. Thank you.
Cold Blue
I will catch the last— no, I won't catch it. That's
fine. That's fine. Yeah. You will enjoy it anyway. I will definitely. Are you
excited for it?
Trance Jesus
Always. I always love getting out and playing with
the TransFamily itself.
Cold Blue
Nice. Thank you for catching me.
Trance Jesus
Hey, I'm happy to do so. Glad to have the chat.
Cold Blue
Have a good rest maybe too.
Trance Jesus
We'll see.
Cold Blue
Or do you have to work soon?
Trance Jesus
I've got a couple projects I'm working on, so. Do it.
Cold Blue
Yeah. See you later.
Trance Jesus
Thank you.
Cold Blue
Thank you, Chris.
Trance Jesus
See you soon.
Cold Blue
Bye.
